Opportunities to help our Seattle students

Stuff the Bus!

Councilmember O’Brien’s Office and City Lights are teaming up with Communities in Schools to help Stuff the Bus full of the back-to-school necessities for low-income students. Collect new backpacks, school supplies, and new school outfits for students in grades K-12 in our Seattle schools between now and Tuesday, August 21st. Items may be dropped off in the Legislative Department reception area at City Hall:

Seattle City Hall

600 Fourth Avenue, 2nd Fl.

Seattle, WA 98104

YWCA Backpack Drive

The YWCA is sponsoring a drive for back to school backpacks, supplies, and clothes. They want to provide one for every child entering K thru 12th grade, in every program at the downtown YWCA, so that’s a lot of backpacks! To help, you can provide a single stuffed backpack or several. In addition to backpacks and supplies, the kids of the YWCA needs back to school outfits so their first step into school is a proud, fun, and comfortable experience.  . All items need to be dropped by noon on August 28th.

For additional information, go to the YWCA website.

Seattle Public Library Homework Help

The Seattle Public Library is seeking Homework Help volunteers who can assist students in grades one through 12 throughout the 2012-2013 school year. Volunteers will assist mainly ESL students in grades one through 12 with homework assignments in English, history, math, science, social studies and other school subjects on a drop-in basis. Applicants must have completed at least one year of college and have experience assisting youth as a tutor, teacher or parent. Volunteers will be scheduled for weekly two-hour shifts. Those who cannot make weekly commitments can be scheduled as substitutes.

There are a lot of students who could use your help.
