“Positive Seattle” is the newest in school fundraisers, a music festival to benefit alternative school Pinehurst K-8. In the style of Folklife and Bumbershoot there will be a variety of live music, arts, crafts, and great food. This was the brainchild of Darius Heggins, an alumnus of Alternative School #1 (now Pinehurst K-8). Darius works many Seattle events including Folklife and One Reel/Bumbershoot. He manages the south half of Seattle Center each spring and autumn. A friend and fellow alumni, who has volunteered at the school for years, and is currently the parent of a sixth grader is assisting Darius in this undertaking. This pair became determined to create a unique fundraiser supporting Pinehurst K-8 in their efforts to restore arts education and create a field trip scholarship fund so that all students can participate regardless of their ability to pay.
All proceeds and donations will go to Sir Herbert Read, the non-profit organization that provides funding for scholarships as well as other educational needs.
“Positive Seattle” is scheduled for Saturday, March 26th from 1:00pm to 10:00pm at Pinehurst K-8 (formerly AS#1), located at 11530 12 Ave. NE Seattle Washington 98125. Two fifteen-foot bouncy toys, one especially for adults, plus kettle corn (provided by Better Bounce Toys), a silent auction, arts, and
crafts, great food by Patty Pan Grill, vegan food for the soul, authentic Thai cuisine by Koasamai, and several musical groups make this a fabulous event. Music includes Clinton Fearon; Artis the Spoonman; Eldridge Gravy and the Court Supremes; Adrian Xavier; Tina Beers and the Violet Line; the Flying Blind
Blues Band; plus special guests by Culture Yard. Local school talent will include The Social Justice Children’s Choir performing civil rights songs under the direction of Kent Stevenson; a duet by Dempsey and Kateel and possibly others.
This is a family event. Suggested donation is $15.00 per person. Children 15 and under, accompanied by their guardian are free. Advance tickets will be sold through Brown Paper Tickets @ 1-800-838-3006 or in the office at Pinehurst K-8 @ 252 4600. If you would like to donate to the silent auction or can’t make
the event but want to donate please call the school @ 206 252-4600.
Sounds great!

Yes, I have never seen a bouncy thing for grown up’s before but that does sound like fun!

This fundraiser was necessary due to Seattle School District funding cuts. It will be a fun event so come on out and contribute to the kids. I’ve heard the silent auction will be great, including scenic flights, plants, and lots of neat stuff. I’m looking forward to some bouncy fun. See ya there. :)
