“The assessment itself is completely artificial,” Chomsky asserts. “It’s not ranking teachers in accordance with their ability to help develop children who will reach their potential . . . It’s turning us into individuals who devote our lives to achieving a rank.”
Ranking students restricts teachers’ creativity. It restricts individualized instruction and I believe it changes the mindset of young children. “Education is developing your own creativity and potential.” I couldn’t agree with this statement more. It is a philosophy to teach by. When will we get to a place in which every child is allowed an education like the one Chomsky describes?
Actually, many private schools, the ones that the billionaires who preach teaching to the test send their children to, have wonderful programs similar to what Chomsky describes.
